It's not talking about being distracted. I'd more characterize what it's talking about as being nervous, and the article explores in considerable depth the sociological explanation for that. Namely, that we tend to devote cognitive resources to thinking about impressing the person we're trying to impress with the task, and that the general expectation in our culture is that men have to impress women. You'd expect similar results if the subjects were told they were competing for a prize and being judged, regardless of the judges' genders. bulbinking posted... Woah turn down the bias.
