"normal" ftl travel, once broken (if it can be), is a complete unknown. it could be quite easy to ramp up speed. and the most known possible work-around, wormhole travel, there's no real reason distance should be a factor at all. the best reason it would take them time to get here is if we're just that far down their list, lol. --- Boom!
