Clearly it's because Americans are worth more than other nationals. Americans are worth 1.1 of a person, Brits and Franks are worth 1.08, other first-world nations are worth 1.05, second-worlders are worth 1.1, and third-worlders are worth 1 if most people can find that country on a map. After all, what other possible reason could there be? It's not like American newspapers would highlight American deaths because they're more relevant to American readers. I mean, that would be like state newspapers highlighting state residents who died in much larger tragedies. Who would possibly try to add local interest to a story? Crazy talk! And it's certainly not like the headline would be more likely to attract American readers who would consume the news resulting in money for the publication.
