There's enough of a difference that I am picking one as opposed to just saying "I haven't noticed any difference." I think it's just the state of the game in general now, as there continue to be more Pokemon and an increasing number of viable threats (in both standard and random) that you can't cover with just 6 Pokemon. It's not nearly as bad there though, at least not after Baton Pass was banned.
