Topic | Facebook ditches "fake news" flag |
Zeus 12/21/17 2:00:02 PM #4: | Amuseum posted... The original intent was to flag controversial conservative views. So obviously when conservatives see that "fake news " icon, they flock to Those articles, as easy identifiers for the type of news they prefer. This, tbh. The measure was almost exclusively partisan in nature and plays into a larger trend of traditionally left-leaning (or straight-up liberal) media outlets trying to delegitimize emerging, conservative media. Pretty much everybody understands that -- liberal or conservative -- so the conservatives weren't terribly likely to take the flag seriously. The general issue is that this model causes actual falsehoods to be ignored by over-policing on the conservative side while controversial claims on the other side aren't even checked. More so, the idea that people would trust Facebook parroting the "fact-checkers" they already distrust was laughable. --- (\/)(\/)|-| In Zeus We Trust: All Others Pay Cash ... Copied to Clipboard! |
