(1ST) Vulfpeck - Tee Time
Vulfpeck's really damn cool. I should probably listen to them more - they're from the same town as my old piano rock band (Ann Arbor, MI). This amalgamation of like, dance and mechanical showtune is too cool for school. I can see why a keyboardist would have a hard-on for this lul. It's like something you would hear during the frantic bonus stage of a platformer (BREAK THE TARGETS). Funk jam bliss.

(2nd) La Roux - Colourless Colour
Really just a memorable, classic-sounding pop chorus - reminiscent of Ellie Goulding's "Lights", or 3OH!3's "Don't Trust Me". Would be really fun to sing. Not a lot of note instrumentally but when the main vocal melody's that strong it doesn't matter.

(3rd) Simon Phillips - Upside in Downside Up
One of those great instrumental tracks you'd only hear through Mycro - mixed meter of course. Really great keyboard work, especially in the bridge like halfway through. When the guitar comes back in at around 4:17 - and that solo to follow - it's just glorious. I do feel it could end shortly after that - where those hits come in and it washes out at around 5:10. I feel we've heard the main pattern enough times, and the busy drum fills feel tacked on. The very end phrase is cool though.

Julian Casablancas - River of Brakelights
I like the sinister opening, and the bit around 50 seconds in (and again at 2:50). I initially didn't like the whole getting the hang of it, timing is everything, getting is everything, timing the hang of it on and on and on, but him mixing the words up is almost like tongue-in-cheek. The irreverence of it is funny. 2:15 is neat.

Art by the Numbers - Best Laid Plans
The transition from jazz into emo rock is....interesting. Really not bad except for the vocals. Got a fun, upbeat groove, with complementary guitar and piano parts. Sounds like a bit of Wind Waker prologue at 2:33. Shuffle outro with the electric piano is cool. Instrumentally it's very good.

Glassjaw - Jesus Glue
I like the drum beat, and the recurring part with higher, sustained vocals + that cyclical guitar part. The guitar at the bridge has like a cool surfer/Miserlou sound. Ugh the vocal tantrums though....lol wtf. I.....would not have done that. At least don't make it so whiny-sounding.

Wrabel - The Village
I get why people are praising the vocals here, but it's a little too naked imo.

Reba McEntire - The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia
Country at best doesn't do much for me, but the chorus here is good enough that I can respect it's a pretty good song. Guitar line is simple but good there, as is the drum fill leading into the final rendition of the chorus near the end. I'm really not into the whole classic "gather round y'all let me tell ya a story" medium so I'm not really interested in the verses. I want more musicality or singing that would elicit emotion.

Peeping Tom - We're Not Alone
Starts a bit like Superfast Jellyfish in that a nice phat beat drops in to open things up. Unfortunately the rest of it's not really my style.

Priests - Suck
Immediately reminded me of DEVO's "Dove: The Band of Love" parody band - a send up of bad 80's pop/guitar bands. The vocals have that distinct female new wave sound - Funkytown especially comes to mind. They're certainly much better than in the Gun Club song, but the song as a whole really doesn't go anywhere. It repeats that arpeggiation to the point of being cheesy.

The Gun Club - Give Up the Sun
This guy sounds kind of like David Byrne.....but crosses that fine line of unstable/interesting into just grating and bad. They remind me of awful local bands I've had to sit through. Instrumentally they sound like they're going through the motions and the vocals are just like the worst possible form of that 80's new wave style.
