I think it depends. Lots of people try to become independent when they literally can't afford it and it just ends up being a shitty situation. They could have just lived with their parents and contributed to the bills there while they get their shit together but there's a definite stigma about living with your parents.

Also I'd imagine Americans are quick to want their independence because you're not as obsessed with home ownership as we are?

People are probably just totally okay with paying rent on a property if it gives them independence, even if it is at the expense of being able to own their own property anytime soon


Idk most people I know my age can't afford a house because wages here aren't great in a lot of places/industries.
