It has self overwriting save data.
I mean you could go into the system settings and manually delete the games save data but still.

It's been years since I played it but I really thought you could just start a new game. If you can't then of course they're right.

So even if you choose not to use level select the levels are still bland, point A to point B. Thats a completely legitimate complaint.

No it's not. It's a legitimate reason to not like it, but a game having levels that are point A to point B doesn't make a game automatically bad. All games don't have to be open world or free roaming.
