Topic	Are the pokemon movies canon or are they like the dbz movies?

Even though the show has been running for like 20 years, it has been less than a year since Ash has started his journey. AKA they dont give a single fuck about canon or continuity. They clearly said when he came back to viridion city that it had been a year since he started. As of the Sun/Moon anime, he's still 10, and the writers have recently gone on record saying that the characters don't age in the show and that no time has passed since Ash originally left Pallet Town. I never understood this train of thought. Do they really think the target demo is that picky? Like, I remember watching cartoons as a kid and I didn't give a fuck off the characters were older than me. Hell, most people in their 20s and 30s now grew up watching DBZ where most of the characters were well over 20 years old, and that show was huge back then. Are children now really gonna be like "Ooooh ya know I really like the concept of Pokemon but I can't identify with the characters because they're like 14 years old..."
