Everything came together in a perfect harmony - the alienation of Ian Curtis's lyrics, the heartbeat bass of Peter Hook driving each song, Stephen Morris's machine-esque timing on the drums, Bernand Summer's pterodactyl noise on the guitar, and Martin Hannet's skills in the studio plus his ear for music led to magic in the recording studio which led to something amazing and completely original.
