Maybe store luggage at the lockers at the train stations while we're out for the day. Also any particular eating places or interesting places that we must see? I definitely want to see the Yamazaki distillery. Honestly the apps are super helpful, and I'd go as far to say that you don't even need them in most cities. Google translate is enough, download the Japanese language pack for it so you can have instant translations from pictures without wifi. Signs are always in English, especially for train stations and such. Don't sweat it. As for eating places, you can spend hours on the internet googling the best restaurants in Japan but honestly everyone does that. It's hard to really find a bad meal, due to the overall quality and expectations there are so much higher whether you're serving food or doing whatever so just explore. Go in to a smokey little ramen shop and a random corner sushi bar or a lively izakaya or something you can't go wrong. As a foreigner, did you have women go up to you and try to get with you? Or would you have to actually go out there and try? I mean, you always have to "try".
