I have this employee who busts his ass every single day, comes in early if it's needed, even comes in on the weekend. He dominates everyone else at the same job. (Not just 3rd shift, he shits on 1st and 2nd too).

He approached me yesterday about a raise. I feel like he really deserves one. I told him I would put in for one for him since I don't have the authority to just approve it on the spot.

Sent the email to the Owner, the gm, and the COO detailing everything he does and why I feel like he should get a raise.

Not even two minutes after I hit send I get a reply from the gm saying "raises are only done yearly after a review". A couple emails back and forth about how he is the best employee on any shift and how the company would need to hire two people to replace him, same answer.

Now I have to sit down the best worker and tell him he can't have a raise until his review in January. He's going to walk out, and I don't blame him.

How can they expect me to keep these guys motivated if I can't even reward them for outstanding performance?
