the ending might have just been the ending. seems like episodes this season have generally had a twist/punchline at the end that sort of leaves you to think about things for yourself. like, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some big follow up plot next week. but I also wouldn't be surprised if they just leave it at that; saying the health industry is responsible for these problems is making enough of a statement.

my overall thoughts:

interesting exploration of the opioid crisis that is affecting rural america. definitely a problem that would have impacted places like south park if they were real. the way this was presented makes it simultaneously feel like they do have a pretty good grasp of the situation but then in other ways kinda not. it's definitely true that one big source of painkillers and other medications is through old people who are essentially given free range on prescriptions and monitored very little to make sure the medication is ending up in the right place. very surprised anyone in television had enough of a grounded perspective to acknowledge something like that, much less base an entire episode around it. the ending left me kind of scratching my head though. granted, there are definitely some people in the health industry who are responsible for the current epidemic. but the truth is that in a lot of places they've actually been cracking down on things and enacting policy to make it more difficult for people to obtain prescription drugs. the ones most directly responsible are absolutely the drug dealers who capitalize on this high demand, restricted supply market. I think blaming the health care industry as the final culprits is a bit lazy and probably too easy, and it doesn't acknowledge the personal responsibility of people actually slinging drugs (and in a lot of cases taking advantage of their elder family members)

aside from that, just on the level of humor alone, the episode made me laugh quite a bit. there were a lot of funny jokes and moments this week. I liked the songs. the only part that made me cringe were the old lady farts which were not funny and, on top of that, got overused quite a bit.
