#32 Overall Picks

LOLB Chad Greenway (S2 by Buccaneers)
DT Rob Armstrong (S3 by Giants)
WR Ernie Wheelwright (S4 by Redskins)
TE Rory Nicol (S5 by Giants)
MLB David Harris (S6 by Titans)
WR Marques Colston (S7 by Lions)
MLB Danny Travathan (S8 by Cowboys)

Armstrong > Harris > Nicol > Greenway > Travathan > Colston > Wheelwright

By all accounts, Armstrong should still be the backup DT. Hell, maybe even the #4. The Giants used to have, in addition to Corey Simon, Jonathan Babineaux and Rien Long at the position. Both bolted for the big bucks after SB victories, and neither found themselves in the playoffs as a Titan/Falcon and Bear, respectively. Armstrong, at 28, is now the 7th highest-rated DT in the game and has 8 or more sacks in all but one of his seasons as a starter. The one season was last year where he added a pair of FF+FRs, so he at least made up for it in some way.

After all those years picking in the Top 10, the secret for drafting well for the Titans seems to have been cracked. Pick toward the end of the round. With the final pick of the first round, the Titans selected arguably their best draft pick to date in Harris. Even with missing 10 games last season, he still managed 5 sacks as a great all-around MLB. Through three seasons, he has 217 tackles, 12 sacks, 3 INTs, 2 FFs, and 7 FRs. He might not be the highest-rated player on that defense, but I'd like you to find someone more important.

Nicol's closest comparison is Zach Miller of the Dolphins. He will likely never be a candidate for TE of the Year, but he has value as a blocker and has stayed healthy while other Giant pass-catchers have not.

Greenway had 80 starts to his name prior to S8, and he recorded his first FF in that season. That's insane. For an OLB, he doesn't add much to the tackle department, but he does have 13 sacks and 9 INTs in his 7 year career, so he can make some plays, just not all of them.

I would not be surprised if Travathan is first in the rankings in two seasons, not to slight Armstrong or Harris. His rookie season as a backup wasn't amazing with 38 tackles and 1 FR, but that is a young, frightening defense. The odds of him not developing is probably low. The only question is if he will have the production to match it, so I will slot him here knowing he may very well leave everyone in his dust before long.

The Lions have such a huge logjam at WR that anyone outside of Lelie should be considered unreliable in the sense that you don't know how the ball distribution is going to be. They also lost arguably the GOAT in Peyton Manning to retirement. Colston does have 6 TDs on 37 career receptions, but as we all know, that is unsustainable.

The biggest loser from the QB play from the Redskins is probably Wheelwright. He sat behind Plaxico Burress and Randy Moss for all those years. He gets his first starting job in S8 and has 36 receptions for 338 yards, 2 TDs. With his size and speed, it is baffling that he seemingly was running short routes most of the time. If a new QB wins the starting job (like Matt Moore), I'm curious if his fortunes will change. The Redskins have primarily won with the run, so I'm not expecting any Pro Bowl-caliber seasons out of Wheelwright, but he should easily have more than double those yards in a remotely good offense.
