Confederate statues were put up overwhelmingly during two time periods, the civil rights movement and during jim crow laws with the sole intent of intimidating black people and letting them know who was in charge. For all intents and purposes, they are literally still on display proudly with the sole intent to intimidate black people and let them know who is in charge.
You can tell because the governer dared try and take one down and racists popped out of the walls.
And if you really want to know how I feel, statues are one of the least important things to worry about right now. I'm sorry, most. Wait, we're not still at war, were we?

Which is a facetious, moronic argument which overlooks that at the SAME time that confederate statues were going up, the Lincoln memorial was going up. More importantly, Jim Crow accounts for a *large* period of time, going basically from the reconstruction until the 1960s. ---
