The trick is you have one person driving the truck and another person in the car to steer. It's actually pretty common cause then you don't have to pay someone with a tow truck to tow your car. Rope works but chain is better. I run my chain through a metal pipe then hook it to the car I'm pulling, the pipe helps stop the vehicles from touching if you slow down too fast.
