A quarterback is a teams leader and the most important position.

He controls and leads the team. some QBs can actually be given permission to call their own plays without the coach telling them what to do all the time.

The QB has to be intelligent. He passes the ball to WRs and has to see the field and read it so he doesnt throw interceptions. He also hands the ball off to the running back on running plays. the QB can also run as well. he can decide what to do. If nobody is open to throw to, he may decide to run to gain yards. some QBs are fast and can run well, though usually not as accurate throwing, and some are slow and rarely run but generally are more accurate. A QB may also decide to run if he is being chased by the defense and cannot get a throw off.

the running back runs with the ball on handoffs, and sometimes catches passes. On certain plays he also blocks and protects the QB. The running back never throws the ball, except in certain rare situations or trick plays.
