The term is generally 1-3 years with the intent of transitioning into a professorship either at the same or a different institution. Professors in the federal government? Maybe at the military academies and I really doubt they'd pay that low. No- for the fellowship, not for the professorship. The federal government does not employ professors. Government funds specific labs & salaried tenure-track positions at Universities for professorships.
