We already have wireless power chargers along with of course solar panels etc. If we were a society that ran on electricity, we would have power available as readily as internet access is right now. Robots could easily set that up in no time. That is not even counting things like having battery centers where robots could swiftly just replace their battery with a new one (that then charges), so all you need to do is quickly stop somewhere every few hours and grab a new battery (depending on the size the robots could actually always carry a spare, giving them quite a decent amount of time before needing to replace them).

the battery swapping is not practical for a *robot army*. our current portable power capabilities are restricted to very weak but very portable (solar panels and cell phone batteries), or very strong and not very portable (combustion engines). we need very strong and very portable (personal fusion reactor).

Why not on the batteries? Say each battery can run a robot for 4 hours, and they have a dual battery pack (so carry 2), they need to swap out the 2 batteries at any station every 8 hours. Stations are everywhere (kinda like taco bell and mc d's combined), so there are never any lines, you just run through quickly and bam, your set for another 8 hours. Even more, since it's so fast to run through, you can do so while traveling etc, when even 1 runs out, so you have a full 8 hours any time you are traveling pretty much. Meanwhile anywhere your stationary would have the wireless charging, or direct cords to charge or run off (so the bot doesn't use his battery charge at all). Yeah, if they are in combat mode, it would be different, but combat mode robots could have bigger batteries (and probably powerful weapons), run vehicles that could keep them charged etc.

It really wouldn't be a problem.
