I think the English language could use gender neutral pronouns. Not because someone identifies as some some unusual entity, but because when explaining something in a general context that applies to an individual using a gender neutral pronoun would feel less clumsy than picking a specific gender, using "s/he", or the worst offender, using a plural form such as "they."

What's wrong with 'she'/'he'?


I think it really breaks apart the fluidity of the sentence. "s/he" is not a real word. It is a concept, substitute, or place holder for a gender neutral word that doesn't exist.

That replacement?

Singular they, as it has been for centuries
