| Topic | Gas/oil/gasoline sure make for some confusing terminology |

But when we're talking about the industry and the process of acquiring petroleum to be refined into gasoline, we often call it oil. And then there's the frequent shortening of "gasoline" into "gas", but "gas" adds to the confusion as it can also refer to a state of matter.
