Ive never listened to tool, but there are bands out there that dont sound like much at "face value" but put on a good set of headphones(again not 100+ dollars but not 5 dollar earbuds either) and you can hear everything. Take this song for example: From 3:35 onward is some crazy drumming, but if you arent listening intently you might not hear it and realize its beauty.
