And even though the narrative was sparse, it actually felt... real? I don't know, but the characters seemed genuine and I actually cared about Zelda's struggles. Some of the VA's were hit or miss, but overall, it didn't feel like some high fantasy drivel and it wasn't convoluted.

The story in this game is terrible, one of the worst of the Zelda series, which is quite a feat.
The guy in the video covered it pretty well, but what is "real" about the narrative? As he said, supposedly the world's on the brink of destruction, but all the towns are idyllic and peaceful and a whole 100 years after Ganon pretty much won, only NOW are the divine beasts becoming a problem for some reason. And Zelda's locked in battle w/ Ganon for 100 years w/o losing somehow while Link got pwned pretty quick and unexplainably doesn't age that whole time. None of it makes sense or feels "real," everything about the plot contradicts itself despite not even having much material to conflict with itself on in the first place.
And no Zelda plot has ever been complex enough to risk being "convoluted."

That said, BotW has one of the worst stories of a Zelda game and Skyward Sword has one of the best. And...that pretty much sums up how important the story is to a Zelda game. :p
