I've played a lot of games, and BotW makes my top 5.

Even though the open world is sprawling and frankly a little intimidating when you first get a nice bird's eye view of it, they somehow managed to make most of the areas feel unique and immediately distinguishable from one another. I usually prize a more narrative focused game, but the feeling of foraging out in the wilderness and getting by on weapons that sometimes aren't that reliable was invigorating (yes, I actually enjoyed the weapons durability component since it meshed well with the whole "survival" aspect of BotW).

And even though the narrative was sparse, it actually felt... real? I don't know, but the characters seemed genuine and I actually cared about Zelda's struggles. Some of the VA's were hit or miss, but overall, it didn't feel like some high fantasy drivel and it wasn't convoluted.

The difficulty was perfect and yes, the final fight was a little lackluster in terms of difficulty, but at least it was showy and bombastic. But in my opinion, the faults with BotW are so minuscule when compared to the game as a whole that I think it will remain in my top 5 for a while.
