It encourages the notion that if enough people can get riled up about something that offends them, then they can get rid of it. It's more destructive than progressive when you stop to think about how anyone can be offended by anything.

And maybe it does glorify something that shouldn't be glorified, but

It is still our history, good or bad it still built this country.


If anything, just leave the statue up and put a citation block next to it that teaches people the controversy. It would educate people and challenge them to see WHY the statue is considered offensive to many.
