He pretty much already has. I just looked it up, he only had five episodes each in 2015 and 2016. If you were to remove those five episodes, in a vacuum I imagine the channel would have still made enough money those years for them to get by. I suppose if he actually quit, people might leave the channel since it's the promise of AVGN that counts. But let's be honest, people still sticking around for AVGN and expecting anything out of it probably aren't the most scrupulous or demanding of fans.

If I were James I'd totally phone it in, having a partner like Mike. Mike seems like he's perfectly content creating a bunch of low-effort videos that now make up the meat of the channel. All James really has to do is show up for one James and Mike video a week, which basically just amounts to playing video games and talking as Mike does all the editing and I think possibly all the setup too.
