Also, I don't know where you go to school, but if it's a larger university, check if you have an active subreddit. I've made a few irl friends off reddit, and heard about some cool activities going on around campus because of it. And, I dunno if it's active in your area (it sure isn't in mine anymore), but some of my best buds for a while I met off yikyak/yeti/swiflie. The easiest way is definitely in-person groups, though.
