There's your problem right there. I'm not talking about sales I'm talking about the experience. Final Fantasy sells on brand recognition alone at this point. We didn't buy Final Fantasy back in the day just because it was the next Final Fantasy, we bought it because we knew we could expect a solid ass turn based RPG with a (usually) excellent story and soundtrack. These days you can't count on FF for any of that.

That's purely subjective, and sales do reflect that to an extent. I'd even flatout disagree on the soundtrack comment.

I think a lot of FF soundtracks is great, but there's something that people need to realize about Nobuo Uematsu. He's actually a mid tier composer in a country of great modern composers even just within the realm of video game music. He's super inconsistent, and a lot of his songs follow the same pattern, that you can always tell when he's baiting for a popular track. His bad songs are cringing bad, and he has trouble making music for things that's not steampunk or a flat grassy land
