Eh, I sort of agree, but it doesn't always work.

I love Baldur's Gate 2 for example. You can have a party of maximum 6 characters, experience is divided amongst them. If you have less characters, they get more experience (also makes it more challenging). Pretty much all characters have their own story, that come with their own questline. So yeah, you will want to rotate characters if you want to experience as much as you can. But sometimes it can make for really weird party compositions. Some work really well, some.... not so much.

But for me, this game handled it pretty much the best.
