Why do they feel the need to differentiate themselves from African Americans? I have no idea, but I would imagine it has to do with demographics. The african-africans who move to america tend to be the most well off people of their respective countries, and also the most cultured and educated. That is a natural clash with the urban portion of african-american culture (I am NOT saying that most of the AA is urban or uneducated.
