Impersonating a government official is a crime so it's technically not a waste of time.

But they aren't impersonating a government official. They actually are government officials, posting under accounts that are clearly marked as not being official government ones. This is precisely the opposite of impersonating a government official.

Not marking it official doesn't magically absolve them from the fact that they're claiming to be officials and the only way to confirm that they are officials is for them to identify themselves.
