Before I do anything rash, I remind myself of the guy who was boiled to death after he jumped into a thermal spring at Yellowstone National Park, to try and save his dog. It takes a much longer time to die from being in icy water (typically about 15 minutes before hypothermia begins to set in while in the water, even longer still for body temperature to drop to lethal levels) than boiling hot water. Spending one minute in the water to save his dog won't kill him as long as he takes steps to prevent hypothermia after getting out which was done by onlookers that called 911 on his behalf.
