Marriages typically fall apart if one or both partners are unwilling to make any compromises. If you go in thinking "you change for no man " or "you'll never change for a woman "....well, no wonder you're divorced 2-5 years later. Marriage is generally a balancing act revolving around both participants staying satisfied enough to continue. What that requires can change day by day. Which means a LOT of compromises, years of compromises. If the couple can't maintain that, it's not really successful.
