Sure, you're less likely to completely open up to someone and truly love them if you don't love yourself, but some people just need a little reassurance from the right person to finally start believing in themselves.
You don't have to be completely 100% ready for a relationship to start one.
You are right though, they should come naturally. They should not be forced. Simply because the ones that occur naturally come when both parties have equal attraction, not necessarily that both parties are content with their lives.
