I want to know how Republicans suggest someone working a low skill job in inner city Atlanta or rural Kansas is going to just up and get a better job with all that money they don't have to move or afford higher education.

People on reddit exaggerate how much automation is going to take over jobs in the near future, even jobs like cashiers.

People don't like to deal with robots.

People didn't want to deal with metal horses either. Some people still think the Internet is pointless.

The world moves right on past them.

You're so naive, anyway maybe people in that situation should go get an apprenticeship as a plumber or AC man or literally anything like that. They won't though because they are too lazy and don't want to work hard.

Yes, but then what happens those kinds of things are the only option. Then you have a market over saturated with those jobs which drives down the value of the labor. IE then you'll have a ton of people with HVAC degrees that won't be able to pay off their loans because they won't be able to get work, and what work they get won't pay much because of the glut of HVAC guys on the market.

I don't really think that's the case to be honest, as someone who worked there way up through the construction industry there's never really enough people. I remember being on 200 man crews and still working 18 hr shifts because we were running out of time. Owners of building projects want the project to be done as fast as possible and are willing to spend as much as possible for the job to get done, hence why it's easy enough for the sub contractors to be willing to work their guys an exorbitant amount of overtime even though it costs 1.5 times more. So honestly If just the construction industry was "over saturated" I think everything would remain the same or even you would see an increase in construction jobs considering that most of the owners trying to get things built have an almost unlimited amount of money to put in to it and also would be happy to splash more cash if it means there investment would get done quicker and they were able to start making a return on it faster. As far as the maintenance side of building operations, I do agree it might be a bit harder no to saturate the market, however those have always been positions that are sought after and it has always been a cut throat industry which only the best of the best make it in since it has to do a lot with getting things done on time to make the biggest profit you can, and without the huge amounts of hours you get to do things in like contruction it's really hard unless you have someone on top of their game. One final note is that the construction and maintenance industries work hand in hand. More construction equals more maintenance which means you would need to hire more in both sectors.
