I think Rodgers' bothers you because your ear is trained to hear Freddie Mercury, and if you hear something too different then it doesn't appease. The closer you get to Freddie's sound, the more it pleases your ear. Which is perfectly fine. You like what you like. Paul Rodgers, while not at all FM Part Two, sounds great to me. "Meshes" just fine.
