I sorta agree with your general sentiment but single character deaths in Fire Emblem shouldn't really be considered in the same category as random status ailment death. Fire Emblem you can generally control when units are put at risk of dying, and the maps/difficulty are designed around the idea that people are not going to want to lose any units. Even fluke crits are generally something you can avoid outright.

All this being said you'd hate vanilla FF1 because it loves fluke status ailment death.
