NES Strider was awesome, I loved that game. It has very little in common with any other games in the series and is (from what I understand) more directly based on the manga. Has more of an attempt at a plot than the other versions (though still low quality, it is 8-bit, but they tried) and has some exploration elements. It's no Metroid, and it has a lot of flaws, but I think there's some good ideas in it.
Favorite part: When you ask for a password to quit the game, you get a next episode preview telling you what's coming up the next time you play. I'd never seen anything like that and it made me excited to keep going. Even now, I can't think of many games that did anything like that.
More on-topic, I hadn't heard of Nintendo Week before. Sorry.
