He didn't tell her to do any of that, but this is verbatim what he said he was doing at her age. Of course there was hyperbole, but I'm more inclined to think he was just an idiot. And the mentality that "Oh this is what my situation was like so this is how you should have it." as a parent is wrong. Your goal as a parent should be to make it so that your children had it easier than you did. Or at least if you're not pathetic it should be. Not that his daughter doesn't have it easier, but I'm just saying.
I'm pretty sure his point was that she does have it easy compared to him, not that he wants her to go through all that ****. Otherwise he'd kick her out of the house and stuff
