Even IF the pre-order gems are stupid, the beauty of fighting games is that I can still beat your Yun or Yang with my Dan if I'm good enough. If you have enough skill then you could turn off your gems and still beat the hell out of your opponent using gems. They add strategy but it doesn't seem like they're game-breaking in the slightest.

This is a terrible point. You're trying to excuse paying for power by saying you're not guaranteed to win. That's a no-brainer.

This doesn't change the fact that not only does your opponent have more options available to them than you, which may include blatantly overpowered gems, but they got these gems independent of their skills in the game. They received their gems by pre-ordering at GameStop or shelling out $9.99 for the DLC gem super pack or whatever. They have a leg up because they have cash lying around, not because they proved that they were good at any aspect of the game. It would be like if Yun and Yang were pre-order bonuses instead of characters available to everyone on the disc. It doesn't matter whether or not I could theoretically beat them with Hakan or something, they still have access to powerful options that I don't for reasons that have nothing to do with the game and everything to do with sales.
