Won't it kind of take a while for everyone to pick out their specific gems for each match?

And won't they need to have every gem unlocked for each game they use at tournaments for it to be fair?

Yeah I'm curious as to how they'll handle unlocking the gems for competitive play but I doubt it would be any different from unlocking all of the characters in a game. As for taking extra time to pick the gems, this game is going to have button checks on the character select screen so I think that it might take even less time than most other fighting games to get into a match. I'm sure they'll optimize gem selection too.

I can understand that people would be upset that certain gems are only available from certain places but we don't even know what the gems are yet. And I don't feel like it's any different than having certain places offer certain pre-order characters. Just because you get another character doesn't mean that you have an edge over your opponent. Just because you have different gems doesn't mean that you're suddenly better.

Even IF the pre-order gems are stupid, the beauty of fighting games is that I can still beat your Yun or Yang with my Dan if I'm good enough. If you have enough skill then you could turn off your gems and still beat the hell out of your opponent using gems. They add strategy but it doesn't seem like they're game-breaking in the slightest.
