Final Fantasy 7 is a mediocre Final Fantasy at best. Sure it was good for its time, but that isn't saying a whole lot. Final Fantasy IV and Final Fantasy VI are much, much better entries. Pokemon R/B is a freaking cult classic. You don't see how as much merchandise for Final Fantasy 7 as you do for Pokemon. Its obvious who was going to win.
Pretty sure both pokemon and mario (and FFVII) have more merchandise than Zelda. Great theory bro. Next time think before you post.
In his defense, both Pokemon and Mario have iconic enemies/allies and Zelda games don't have a 'recurring set' of enemies like Mario and Pokemon usually do so making plushes and other merchandise would be specific to ONE Zelda game while making Mario and Pokemon merch would fit almost the entire series for the most part. Zelda definatly had the iconic story line over Mario IMO anyways.
