That's no different from Hisen-ko. Least he still has decent enough zoning tools, thats more than Arthur or Hisen-ko have.
It was dumb. Haggar's and Tron's assists were dumb, and no one denied that. If you were only using Wright for the assist you weren't using him right anyways.
Basically without the invincibility its just a wall-bounce version of Frank's cart.
Wesker did get nerfed from Vanilla to Ultimate, but then they do something stupid to offset that nerf(which was dumb).His Assist is only for OTG anyways, didn't have much value or safety in anything else.
