IF YOU ARE ONE OF THE 5 FOOTMAN/SWORDMAN USERS FOLLOW THIS GUIDE

~1. Position Yourself~

1a) Join Egypt. Do NOT buy any units yet.
1b) Walk to the city that has been assigned to you. Refer to your map to figure out how to get their from Cairo.
1c) Now suicide-in-country to get your MP back for free. The suicide button is located from your [Profile] page. Do NOT suicide OUT of country.
1d) Now log back in, as suiciding will cause you to log out.

~2. Let The Trainign Begin~

2a) Go to the Barracks [hotkey = k] and buy footmen. You will be able to afford 9 right away.
2b) Buy a Hero from the Barracks as well, if it lets you. Usually I am not allowed to buy a hero until Corporal, but I understand the game will sometimes allow people to buy one at Private instead.
2b.2) If you were allowed to buy a hero then make sure you buy it some leather armor in the Armory before you begin training. [Hotkey A for Armory]
2c) Now go to the City Center [Hotkey C] and press the "Patrol the Marketplace" button. This will generate a random scenario which will lead you to a battle. These battles will be fairly easy for a fully healthy army at this level and should rarely result in injuries.

~3. How To Dismiss-Train Through the Grey Ranks~

When you are using the dismiss-training strategy you must do things after every battle.

(1) If any soldiers became injured in the battle go to the Encampment page [E] and dismiss them from your army.
(2) If you have enough wage available to buy more footmen (32 for each apprentice footman) then buy some now. You might have enough wage available because you dismissed some injuries or because your commander got a promotion.
(3) After buying new soldiers you can promote any soldiers who are ready to level up. You do this at the Encampment page also. It is important to buy soldiers before promoting because it is possible to promote soldiers even after you have "run out" of wage. It is better to buy soldiers and promote everything (resulting in a negative wage) than to promote everything and be unable to buy (resulting in a temporarily weaker army)
(4) Keep training at the marketplace

Training through Private will only take 91 XP and should pass quickly. Once you have made the promotion to Corporal you must remember to buy a hero immediately. (Unless you were able to pick one up at Private, of course)

Following these steps of Dismissing, Replacing, Promoting, and Training On should get you to 1001 XP in no time. The idea here is to follow these steps as rapidly as you can. Once you hit lieutenant a few things are going to change.
Before you were lieutenant you could only purchase soldiers down to a wage of 0. After hitting Lieutenant you can now purchase units until your wage is -310. Buy as many soldiers as it will allow you to. (The wage you can purchase down to, which at lieutenant is -310 is known as your "softcap". You can promote beneath this mark, but not beyond your "hardcap" which is double)
Before you were lieutenant you could only have one hero. Now you may purchase a second hero. Do so immediately.
Before you were lieutenant you could train on the easy marketplace, now you must switch to terrain training. Because Plains is better for us than Desert you will need to walk to Cairo to continue your training. Make SURE you stock up on units before walking to Cairo.
