It doesn't really need to be explained because if she was setup, this is pretty self-explanatory.
why didn't Mimi just act stupid and say she was wrong about the car's origin? It would be totally believable.
Because it's the car's orientation that matters, not where it came from (although where it came from explains the car's orientation, of course), and the testimony came from that paper right after the accident.
-Couldn't Morgan have just shot Maya and claimed the Spirit Severing Technique failed and she had to use self-defense against a still-violent spirit?
Because apparently pleading justified self-defense would've ruined Maya's chances at becoming Master, so I doubt Morgan would've wanted to use the same excuse.
