No, you have to wear it down in the Forest Stage. It's in a hole somewhere in the Lost Woods.
You can also wear the Mask of Truth down there to get a Deku Nut upgrade.
One of these is missable, I think its the deku nut one. It's a glitch or something, so do these while you're a kid.
