I know my college has courses on James Joyce Twain and Faulkner.
As for Yo's question, that's a difficult one. I could see several recent fantasy books making their way into those kind s of specialty courses, but most of the big name literature is children's literature.
While Hunger Games and Harry potter may be popular I don't believe there is enough intellectual depth to either series to warrant their induction into the academy.
I would say the most recent stuff that will get a serious look is the work of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Love in the Time of Cholera in particular.
