So a casual gamer instantly becomes a hardcore gamer if he sticks Dark Souls into his PS3 for five minutes? Its basically what you're saying. You define the gamer strictly by the games they play, meaning all it takes for someone to move up to "hardcore" is to spend minimal time with a hardcore game.
This is actually a good point. You wouldn't assume I was a casual gamer even if Dark Souls was the only game I ever played in my entire life, because you associate it with hardcore gamers. I enjoy some Call of Duty on occasion, but that doesn't mean I'm any less serious about my hobby than you are.
Casual and hardcore are all about degrees. How much time you put into gaming, how wide your scope, how many years of experience.
