Best option is slowly pull away, make it seem like the spark is fading, and make her break up with you. It's basically inception; you have to make her believe she came up with the idea of the break up and you weren't subtly putting it out there.
This is a bad idea. I've had guys do this to my friends and it just makes the girl feel really, really bad about herself. And it makes them think you don't have the balls to just break up with them. Which is essentially the case. It's no good any way you look at it.
You just have to man up and do it. If you explain your reasoning in a non-douche bag manner she'll be mad, but you may still be able to salvage a friendship if you work a little at it. Assuming you want a friendship.
