I've seen many ads go after the same demographic in the same manner (although I can't remember which products), and I watch no more than a few hours of TV a week. It's gotten huge.
Dairy Queen does something similar to what the Old Spice commercials do with the whole "First it's one thing, and now it's something else entirely," although it doesn't really emphasize the machoness as much.
